Oakley – The cult brand for performance and design
Oakley is undoubtedly one of the most famous eyewear manufacturers on the planet. The iconic "O" company logo on the side of the temples alone has become a symbol that needs no introduction all over the world. Originally designed for motorsports, the eyewear brand is particularly well-known in the field of sports sunglasses and sunglasses for men and women. To this end, the dedicated team of designers works closely with top athletes and recreational sports enthusiasts to draw inspiration from their experiences, further improve the already high quality standards and set new benchmarks.
Innovation and Design – The Oakley Philosophy
Oakley not only impresses with its outstanding quality, but also with its futuristic design. The combination of organic and artistic elements creates a unique look that stands out from the competition. Over the years, the extreme sunglasses shapes have created an unmistakable style that is popular with athletes and fashion lovers alike.
The Creation of Oakley
James Jannard founded Oakley in 1975 with a starting capital of just $300 in his own garage. Contrary to popular belief, he did not name the brand after the famous stuntwoman Annie Oakley, but after his dog, an English Setter. The first product was the innovative B-1B grip for BMX handlebars, which became grippier instead of slipperier when wet or sweaty. The first models were sold directly from the trunk of a motocross event.
The Road to a Global Brand
In 1980, Jannard developed the first protective glasses under the name O-Frame, the design of which also served as inspiration for the striking company logo. The company's worldwide success began with the "Eyeshades" sports glasses, which came onto the market four years later. The breakthrough came when three-time Tour de France winner Greg Lemond became aware of Oakley's innovative sunglasses. This was followed by iconic models such as the Oakley Holbrook and the Oakley Frogskins, as well as ski goggles and top lifestyle glasses such as the Oakley Sutro.
